Joerg: From the 14th to the 20th September 2009 the international “Week of Basic Income“ took place. At the moment you can see a huge movement in support of this idea in Europe and all over the world. And we talk really about freedom. But in Germany politicians are not very interested in this topic, but more and more raise the “democratic question”.
Nazip: Real democracy is only possible, when people are free. If people are economically, psychologically or ideologically dependent, they can’t build democratic relations . Every election is like a play with democracy with further dependence. Therefore people should become more free – economically and ideologically. And one way of economic freedom, as Joerg says, is Basic Income. This means: a sum, which is paid by a state to citizens and which is enough to live a usual decent existence – from birth to death – because of the fact of their existence. Joerg and his friends and others advocate this idea and develop it worldwide. As far as I understand, the idea of Basic Income has supporters in many countries. Which countries can be mentioned?
Joerg: In Germany there is a very active discussion. But also in the USA, in Australia, France, Spain and other countries people talk about this idea…
Nazip: … a wide range!
Joerg: Yes, but it seems, that the discussion is most lively in Germany.
Nazip: Now the discussion started in Ukraine, too. Not long ago we had a very interesting symposium about Basic Income and the possibilities, how to develop this idea in Ukraine. Joerg invited me to speak at the symposium. And I think, that all topics, we talk today about, are connected to the idea and realization of Basic Income. Maybe it is a possibility for the modern humanity to free people from their undeserving dependence, because the exploitation is not further more capitalistic, but feudalistic. Unfortunately it is very strong in Ukraine. I can see this each day with my own eyes and maybe also our listeners, which can call right now. You may tell us examples and which solutions you see.
